Inspiration [Week 10]│J.G. Quintel

In 2009, when animation/cartoons in media gained a higher amount of quality in story and ideas. New shows began appearing: Adventure Time by Pendleton Ward, Gravity Falls by Alex Hirsh, Steven Universe by Rebecca Sugar, Clarence by Skyler Page, and the show that I'm discussing for this, is J.G. Quintel's Regular Show. This is a show that bends the traditionalism norms for cartoons, basing the main characters as a Blue Jay, a Raccoon, a Yeti, a Lollipop man, and a Gumball Machine working in a park. The conflict at the end of the episode is always ridiculous, from playing Mini Golf or playing Video Games, no matter the plot of the episode it's always out of place in the end; being a cartoon with an out of place feel, gives inspiration to anyone who wants to go in this creative route.

Back In The Day

I was a traveler, leaving home to explore at an early age. One day I was stop by a small town to grab something to eat, since I was hungry, apparently the food was undercooked, so I went to throw up in the nearest can. Surprisingly, there was a photographer there and before I upchucked, I told the man "Hey! When I'm done with this, take a picture of me so I can remind myself to never eat at that garbage they call a restaurant."

Inspiration [Week 9]│Bob Ross

I remembered being 3 or 4 when I watched the Joy of Painting on PBS, seeing the man himself, Bob Ross with calm, soothing voice, array of paint supplies, and his signature afro. Whether you are young, old, a novice or a professional, you will always enjoy the work of this great man and what he did for many people. May his skills live and pass on to many aspiring artists out there.

A Day In Your Life

[21 Photos]
  1. My favorite part of this assignment was taking shot of subjects that I usually seen everyday and display them in a photogenic style.
  2. My favorites are Images: #3 (Phone w/ Bluetooth earbuds), #5 (Jack o' Lanterns), #6 (Stop sign), #10 (Gang tags behind a sign), #15 (Neon light Chargers sign), #19 (Americanfence.com sign)
  3. The challenging part was find subjects during the time of night; Rewarding was using flash in that time to create a nice feel for these subjects.
  4. Mostly and only the Depth of Field.
  5. I want to say Image #19 because of how empty everything is, and what's left is only the sign and fence, in a black field.

Inspiration [Week 8]│Marques Brownlee

Marques Brownlee, or better known as internet personality MKBHD, creates videos about tech, gadgets, gear, and anything in that between and uploads them in his YouTube channel. A dedicated focus on the progression of technology, filming his videos in a "crispy" format and clean-cut style, he has become one of the fastest growing channels on YouTube, a premiere destination for quality tech videos.

Inspiration [Week 7]│Hirohiko Araki

The artist that I will talk about this week is Japanese Manga Artist Hirohiko Araki. In 1980 with his one-shot Poker Under Arms, and began his professional career with the short series Cool Shock B.T.Baoh, and The Gorgeous Irene. But the one which I will be focusing the most is his longest running series Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Why I choose this is because of Araki's art style that he has developed over the years having more and more of a realism look with superb detail on clothing. Another would be his color palette, when looking at his work in color, Araki tends to use more unusual colors, from inspirations such as Paul Gauguin, in one his pieces: Cavaliers Sur La Plage. Whether is you appreciate it not, Araki's art style is very pleasing in the long run, with its detail and color.

Inspiration [Week 6]│Akira Toriyama

These pieces of artwork were illustrated by Japanese manga and video game artist, Akira Toriyama. The 2 pieces above are from videos games: Dragon Quest & Chrono Trigger, having a constructed art style with both characters and background. The third one on the bottom is from the manga: Dragon Ball, repeating the same I said from the two pieces above, constructive art style with the characters and background; Toriyama has and still illustrates fantastic pieces of art that anyone can appreciate when they see it.
